The Guild organised two summer trips this summer. The first, to the Nature’s Rainbow dye garden, brought forth lots of very useful information for the small group attending. This included a showing of the colour differences between a number of different types of madder, including smoked madder!
The second trip was to the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge to see a selection of Chinese and Japanese textiles with textiles curator Carol Humphrey. Textiles dating back to the 1500s and up to the early 20th century were brought out and curator Carol Humphrey was generous in her selection, revealing many items that are normally only kept in storage. Eleven members joined us on this special trip. We may well go back to the Fitzwilliam again, since there is to be a major textile-related exhibition for the general public most likely in 2023.
