From Guatemala to California . . . and now Cambridge

The Guild has received the most beautiful gift from Pamela, a lady in California who discovered us online. She has sent us a backstrap loom bought from a 17-year-old weaver in Chichicastenango, Guatemala in the early 1970s. It has a piece of weaving in progress and the original sisal backstrap (made from agave fibre) so we can study the structure and techniques . . . just fascinating. Pamela has also given us two molas, which are gorgeous pieces of hand-embroidered applique. I will bring them along to a future meeting for everyone to see close-up. Thank you so much, Pamela for this generous gift.
